My Big Fat Idea : Cheap NYC Rent
I was living in New York for 10 months when I came up with THE BEST idea to save on rent—move onto a sailboat! This remained a ‘reasonable’ thing to do for the next two years. I had a conceptually driven angle to the project in trying to really cut down on my possessions, as well as undertake my first experiment at owning my own home.
After experiencing the coldest NYC winter in over a decade, two hurricanes and lots of adventures, an apartment made sense. I spent the rest of my time in the Big Apple living in brick buildings. I still miss the cheap rent.
It took me 20 minutes to get out of the boat on this morning—the snow had blanketed the tracks that the main hatch slid over. I could have opened the front hatch, but it opened right above my bed.
